HISTORY
The Bankers lamp was an American invention originally designed for banks. The Bankers lamp was invented by the American Harrison D. McFaddin. The lamp was put into production on May 11th 1909.
The original green glass lamp shade was made in Czech Republic and the base was made in America. The McFaddin factory in New York assembled the shades and stands. At this time the lamp was sold under the name ‘Emeralite’ which was a blend of the words ‘emerald’ and ‘light’.
ABOUT DESIGN
The main objective for the project, was to pick a classic lamp and design a revival version of the lamp. For my design, I wanted to highlight the structure of the and create a new top from the outlines of the original lamp. My design gives a modern feel to a space, while using the original brass material. The new Bankers Lamp design has more movement and flexibility to provide the best lighting for a desk space. There are 3 hinges on the arm of the lamp that connects the ring light at the top to the solid base at the bottom and allows the light to point at any direction.
